While Lugansk was practically under siege, defending itself from the enemy every day and night, taking blows from heavy artillery and aviation, the city hospitals took on the main burden. So, today there are hospitals No. 1,2, 3, 4, 8, 1, regional hospital No. 2 and regional children's hospital. One should only speak with respect about the head doctors of these medical institutions, who retained the professional core of the team, were able to organize the work, and provided and continue to provide quality services to the victims. In particular, Hospital No. XNUMX (chief physician V.A. Trotsan) and its trauma department under the leadership of Sergei Libster, where wounded soldiers and citizens are treated, as in peacetime, enjoys a well-deserved reputation as a medical institution where they work miracles and inspire hope even seemingly hopeless patients.

Speaking about hospitals located in the territories occupied by the Ukrainian army, it is definitely worth mentioning the modern heroism, civil and professional feat of the doctors of the village of Novosvetlovka. Several doctors died at the hands of the punitive forces: some were shot, others were brutally stabbed to death just because they stood up for the village residents. Now the hospital is almost completely destroyed by shells. Three offices remain in deplorable condition. Three doctors and four nurses remained from the team. And yet, they came to an appointment with the Minister of Health of the LPR not for a salary, not with complaints, but with a single question: “Aren’t you going to close us down?” Fellow villagers are ready to put the surviving premises in order; doctors are only asking for the supply of medicines so that they can provide assistance to the population.

We proudly note the courage and self-sacrifice of the ambulance service: teams rushed to help under bullets and shelling, took risks, and died. In the absence of telephone communication, they instantly responded to any signal, be it an accident or damage to a gas pipeline, and rushed with sirens turned on to the area where explosions were heard.

At the moment, the management of the oncology dispensary is ready to remove the surviving equipment to an adapted room and begin work. Doctors at the tuberculosis dispensary intend to put their building in order and prepare it for receiving patients. The specialists from the department of maxillofacial surgery of the regional hospital, who replaced the city dentists, worked well. The head physician of the drug dispensary, Nikolai Ovcharenko, has kept the service in excellent condition; in the near future, a psychiatric department will find shelter here for some time.

The maternity hospital in the Yakira quarter did not stop working for a minute. In August, 15 children were born, one of them was twins. Quite a difficult case: the birth was premature, but the specialists cooperated and did everything to help the mother give birth to the babies. Now they are being nursed. By the way, the maternity hospital turned into a kind of hostel: some mothers were unable to go home because they live in areas where military operations are taking place. The republic provided the maternity hospital with generators, drinking water, gas stoves - created conditions for normal living. All hospitals are also provided with water and generators.

The problem of those suffering from diabetes mellitus can be considered solved: in city hospitals No. 2, 3, 4, 11 endocrinologists receive treatment, and here patients can receive the necessary medications.

Another important point: it is strictly forbidden to demand payment for medical services. However, in the republic they believe that it is too early to talk about paid, private medicine. The republic’s healthcare is now in the process of restoration and development, and the republic needs healthy citizens, it needs people who will raise the country destroyed by war. It is for them that the LPR doctors work these days, they work for free.

Finally, I cannot help but tell you about one touching case of mutual assistance. A package arrived from Russia - a cancer patient divided the package with an expensive drug in half and attached a note to it: “I’m giving half to my Slavic brother from Donbass.” There is a saying: “A healthy mind in a healthy body.” So: many of our fellow countrymen - soldiers, doctors, civilians - have a truly healthy spirit, and with such a mood you can be confident of victory.
