The recently adopted law of Ukraine “On Education” not only restricts the use of the native language, but is discriminatory towards national minorities.

This was stated today in Kyiv by the Chairman of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Fiona Fraser, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“On September 28, the new law of Ukraine “On Education” came into force, which introduced new rules for the use of the state language in education. According to it, Ukrainian will become the main language of secondary and higher education.

We warn that the strengthening of the position of the Ukrainian language should not occur at the expense of the languages of national minorities. We call on the government to adhere to the rights of national minorities without any discrimination against them,” Fraser said.
