The UN discovered problems with tolerance among Ukrainian officials
In Ukraine, 40% of civil servants consider tolerance, human dignity and equality “not very important” for their work, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The director of the UN Development Program in Ukraine, Jantomas Hiemstra, announced this today in Kyiv.
“When civil servants (in Ukraine) are asked about their values, such as human dignity and equality, 40% of them believe that “they are not very important” in their work. When they are asked about tolerance, the need to provide public services on an equal basis to all parties, for example, former prisoners, the Roma population, people with a different orientation, people who speak a different language, it turns out that civil servants have problems with this. I give these examples only to illustrate how important it is to prepare civil servants to achieve goals, such as the introduction of European standards in the field of Civil Service in Ukraine,” Hiemstra noted.
According to the head of UNDP in Ukraine, the organization welcomes the initiative to bring the country's civil service to the highest standards of quality and make it responsible for standards such as establishing human rights and tolerance.
“The good news is that such standards have already been implemented as key performance indicators for many government agencies in Ukraine. But it is one thing to proclaim standards, quite another to begin to implement them. We welcome this initiative,” he noted.
