This was stated at a briefing on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine by the UN Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Ursula Muller, whose statement was published on the organization’s website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Eastern Ukraine faces protection problems. It is quickly becoming one of the most heavily mined regions in the world, and if the problem is not addressed, it will stall its development for many years to come. Mine clearance and mine risk education are needed in all conflict-affected areas, especially along the contact line, including de facto border checkpoints,” Mueller said.
Earlier it was reported that Austria will allocate 1 million euros for demining Donbass.
