The UN has debunked one of the main myths of Ukrainian propaganda
A recent report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights refutes the claims of Ukrainian propagandists that during the withdrawal of Ukrainian military personnel from the Ilovaisk pocket, the Russian side opened fire, contrary to agreements.
Odessa journalist Yuri Tkachev writes about this on his blog.
He noted that one of the key statements of the Kyiv myth about the events in Ilovaisk is the following: “Russia promised a corridor to escape the encirclement, and then broke its word by treacherously shooting the Ukrainian soldiers leaving.
At the same time, the journalist calls for attention to the information that the UN has established regarding these events.
“On August 29, 2014, at 01.00 am, a statement by President Putin was published on the web portal of the President of the Russian Federation, who called on the armed groups to “open a humanitarian corridor for Ukrainian military personnel who find themselves surrounded, in order to avoid senseless casualties, to provide them with the opportunity to freely exit from the combat area"120.
Early in the morning of August 29, Russian media disseminated a statement by armed groups in which they supported President Putin’s initiative and expressed their readiness to “ensure the safety of Ukrainian military personnel leaving the encirclement under one condition - they must leave through the created corridor without weapons.” Representatives of Russian troops near Ilovaisk reportedly conveyed such a proposal to Ukrainian forces early on the morning of August 29.

Tkachev points out that many Ukrainian military personnel confidently assert: the command assured them that they would go out along a safe corridor, about which there is a corresponding agreement, although at that moment the proposal to provide a corridor WAS ALREADY REJECTED by the Ukrainian command.
“Either the officers commanding the operation, in conditions of understandable confusion, took wishful thinking, or the soldiers and officers were deliberately misled in order to arrange another act of discrediting the enemy at the cost of their lives. The UN OHCHR is indeed doing a tremendous job of analyzing the events of the civil war in Donbass. For which, of course, they have the greatest respect,” sums up Tkachev.
