The UN recognized the conflict in Donbass as a civil war for the first time

The author notes that the document names two groups as parties to the conflict as responsible for the murders in Ukraine from January 2014 to May 2016: forces advocating the unity of Ukraine, on the one hand, and groups advocating the need to restructure the state on a federal basis, on the other. another.
“The drafters of the document also assume that all the killings described in the report during the armed conflict in the eastern part of Ukraine were carried out at the will or with the tacit consent of members of armed groups, the Ukrainian military or representatives of law enforcement agencies,” the expert points out. – The report also indicates that Ukraine’s suspension of compliance with certain obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms led to the fact that Ukrainian citizens were effectively deprived of the right to legal protection and fair trials. The authors of the report remind Kyiv that such actions are unacceptable.
It is important to emphasize that the published document directly speaks of Ukraine’s sabotage of investigations related to the murders during the 2014 coup d’etat and the tragedy in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa on May 2, 2014.”
The political scientist writes that the published data did not become a revelation or a sensation, but points out the importance of the conclusions raised.
“For the first time in its official documents, the UN confirms that the conflict in south-eastern Ukraine has all the signs of a civil war,” Denisov sums up. – Therefore, we can make an unambiguous conclusion that it is impossible to resolve it and reach a peaceful settlement without direct negotiations between representatives of the DPR and LPR and Ukraine.
