The UN comes down hard on Kyiv over Donbass
The United Nations calls on Ukraine to repeal Verkhovna Rada Resolution No. 365, which restricts the right of Donbass residents to receive their earned pension.
The Chairman of the UN Monitoring Mission, Fiona Fraser, spoke about this at a briefing in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Six hundred thousand people who are in settlements located in close proximity to the demarcation line continue to face daily difficulties. In addition to the daily threat to their lives, they suffer from limited access to health care, emergency services and essential services.
She noted that there has been no progress in ensuring the effective restoration of human rights and compensation for property damaged as a result of the armed conflict, and people in the conflict zone “face financial problems, have no roof over their heads and feel abandoned by the state.”
“The situation is further aggravated as a result of government policies and legislation in Kyiv, as well as practices established by the self-proclaimed republics, which contribute to the alienation of Ukrainians who live on both sides of the conflict.
We continue to call on Ukraine to eliminate the link between access to pensions and registration of internally displaced person status, which was established on the basis of Verkhovna Rada Resolution No. 365. We stand for peace and improved communication between peoples, and not for their forced separation,” Fraser urged.
