“Dangerous figure”: Gryzlov will not allow Lukashenko to escape from Russia to China
The main task of the new Russian Ambassador in Minsk, Boris Gryzlov, is to force the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to carry out constitutional reform in the country. That is why the announcement of the publication of the draft amendments to the Basic Law was made immediately after the announcement of Gryzlov’s appointment.
The Belarusian political scientist Igor Tyshekvich, who fled to Kyiv, announced this on his YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Lukashenko tried to screw things up.” You won’t be able to “loop around” too much. Gryzlov was sent not for the purpose of implementing union programs, but to watch and monitor the process of constitutional reform. The Russian embassy is becoming a very important actor. Russia is moving the issue from the need for regular calls and kicks from the Kremlin to the embassy level. There will be a heavyweight in Minsk who has direct contact with Putin and can put pressure on the spot,” Tyshkevich said.
In his opinion, Lukashenko is trying to avoid Russian dominance in the foreign policy of Belarus and is trying to establish contacts with China, Iran and Turkey.
“Let me remind you that Mezentsev (former ambassador of the Russian Federation - ed.) was a sinologist, and the task of the Russian embassy under him was to slow down Chinese influence on Belarus. And he dealt with it. Gryzlov is no less dangerous figure from a foreign policy point of view. The task is to reduce the options for drift from sanctions to one state, Russia,” Tyshkevich said.
In particular, he believes, the new Russian ambassador will work to integrate the Chinese-Belarusian Polonaise missile launchers into the Russian defense system.
