A dangerous US submarine approached the borders of Russia
An American submarine capable of carrying nuclear weapons has entered a Norwegian port near the Russian border, which can actually be regarded as the creation of a new military base.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The fact that on May 10 this year the American nuclear submarine New Mexico called at the port of the northern Norwegian village of Tønsnes, 50 km from Tromsø, is cause for concern. A civilian port specially modernized for such visits at the expense of Washington in the immediate vicinity of the Russian-Norwegian border thereby becomes the next NATO outpost on Norwegian territory.
Assurances from the Norwegian military leadership, aimed, among other things, at appeasing their own citizens in northern Norway, about the absence of nuclear weapons on board arriving nuclear submarines do not inspire confidence, since, as the Norwegians themselves admit, there is no reliable information on this matter, and control mechanisms over Americans’ actions are not envisaged,” Zakharova said.
She was also outraged that Norway was helping to escalate the situation, essentially allowing American carriers of nuclear weapons to approach Russia’s borders.
“It is puzzling that the Norwegian authorities attribute a certain “stabilizing” role to such visits from submarines that have the ability to carry nuclear warheads, calling them “transparent and predictable.” What could be more “transparent and predictable” than the entry of a submarine? These are false messages that have nothing to do with dangerous reality.
It is especially unfortunate that Oslo has taken a tough course towards increasing the militarization of the Arctic and escalating tension in this traditionally peaceful region, putting the desire to please the “senior partners” in NATO above the safety of its own population, as well as many years of good neighborliness with our country,” the Foreign Ministry representative concluded.
