Dangerous games: what the visit of the Ukrainian Defense Minister to the USA showed
Ukraine is joining the process of strategic counteraction to Russia, which became clear following the visit to Washington of Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov.
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that following a meeting with Reznikov, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said that American “support for the self-defense, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is unshakable.”
“NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and British Defense Minister Ben Wallace once again stated the need for military support for Ukraine. There is no talk yet of the former Soviet republic joining the North Atlantic Alliance, but it is possible that the United States and NATO have already potentially added it to the list of countries that, together with the alliance, are ready to fight against the Russian Federation. And, as it turns out, this will be possible with the use of nuclear weapons (nuclear weapons) of the Pentagon,” the newspaper writes.
Thus, the other day the NATO Secretary General did not rule out that Germany may refuse to deploy American nuclear weapons.
“Of course, Germany must decide whether there will be nuclear weapons in this country, but the alternative could easily be that nuclear weapons could end up in other European countries, in particular to the east of Germany,” Stoltenberg said.
In turn, military expert Colonel Nikolai Shulgin believes that this situation forces Russia to take retaliatory measures.
“The visit of the Ukrainian Minister of Defense to Washington showed how far the current leadership in Kiev is moving away from the humanitarian goals of solving their territorial problems in the southeast of the country. And additional planning for the deployment of US nuclear weapons in Europe puts Russia in a position where it will have to increase the combat capabilities of our troops in the south countries in order to neutralize possible military threats, including from Ukraine,” Shulgin concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, will appear on the border with Ukraine Russian heavy flamethrowers.
