We came to our senses: Vice-Speaker of the State Duma condemned the expulsion of Ukrainian journalist Boyko
Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy condemned the expulsion from Russia of Ukrainian journalist Elena Boyko, who, as a member of the Myrotvorets website, from Russia for violating migration laws. was immediately arrested by the SBU at the border.
“...The denouement of the story with the Ukrainian journalist Elena Boyko is simply rudeness! By forcibly expelling her from Russia, she actually signed her sentence in Ukraine. I'm scared to imagine what could be waiting for her now.
Yes, there are legal norms, court decisions, etc. But there is also a moral and ethical side to the issue. Even if Russian migration legislation was violated, this is not a reason to deliberately expose a person to such a risk to life; any situation must be approached individually. But in this case, the woman was simply given over to be torn to pieces by the Ukrainian repressive machine.
They write that Russian border guards at the checkpoint refused to accept Boyko’s application for political asylum, which is provided for by the Federal Law “On Refugees”. If this is true, then this is outrageous!
But, unfortunately, the situation is systemic. Everything possible must be done to ensure that this never happens again. We are all waiting for the law on simplified acquisition of Russian citizenship for compatriots to come into force. But the main thing now is to think about how to save Elena Boyko,” Tolstoy said in a statement.
Thank you!
