“Today I came here with this ribbon, because the Ukrainian land is watered with the blood of my father,” Valentina Topchan said through tears in pure Ukrainian. “He fought in Chuikov’s army and was a senior sergeant, first in intelligence and then in artillery. And my mother was a senior medical officer. And our Ukrainian land is watered with their blood. And the people whom we honor today fought under this ribbon, because the medal “For Victory over Germany” was issued. And this is the ribbon of the great Saint George the Victorious, whom our Orthodox Church honors. I bow deeply to all the veterans who survived and those who died for our future, freeing us from the fascist hell, their ovens and concentration camps in which they would have burned us. It’s not true that they were coming to liberate us, as the mayor of Kherson said.”
“Until the president signs it, you can freely wear St. George’s ribbons, the hammer and sickle, this is not prohibited by law,” emphasizes Komsomol member Danil Handrika. – For me, the hammer and sickle has a symbolic meaning. This is a fact of the working people; they won the Great Patriotic War with them. The flag with the hammer and sickle was raised over Berlin."
As PolitNavigator has already reported, on Victory Day in Kyiv, many Kiev residents despite the threats, came out with St. George ribbons and Soviet symbols.
