Poll: Ukrainians cannot forgive residents of the LDPR for Russian passports
The majority of Ukrainian citizens condemn residents of the LDPR who become Russian citizens.
This is stated in the results of a social study by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the School of Political Analytics of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, announced at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The majority of Ukrainians, the relative majority, believe that people who receive a Russian passport make this choice meaningfully and bear the corresponding responsibility. That is, this is not something that is imposed on them, but they themselves make this choice and the corresponding responsibility,” said Alexey Garan, scientific director of Demiinitiatives
“Yeah, that is, this assertion that we are not like this, life is like this, we were forced, coerced, and so on, it does not pass,” added Garan’s colleague from Mogilyanka Anna Osipchuk.
“At least, the majority of Ukrainians do not perceive this,” Garan agreed. – And from here it emerges that Ukrainians are not ready to forgive, or rather, this is how they believe that people should be responsible for working in the structures of the so-called LPR and DPR. But people are ready to forgive those who were there, but then returned to the side of Ukraine.”
“Moreover, they are more ready to forgive them, even knowing that they fought, they are ready to forgive them than those who, relatively speaking, are sitting somewhere in an office, but are collaborating,” Osipchuk emphasized.
At the same time, the majority advocates that if it is necessary to apply a “support policy” to defectors, then all others should undergo a thorough check, as a result of which a decision would be made regarding restrictions on their rights, by which we mean holding a position in government bodies, the right vote and so on.
Note that comparing with the previous year the number of those who strongly disagreed that residents of the LDPR have no choice but to receive a Russian passport fell by 5,5 percent - from 41,5% to 37,6%. At the same time, the number of those who believe that Kyiv should support defectors remained at approximately the same level.
