Optimistic Scholz: Ukraine will need 100 years to recover from the war
Ukraine may need about a hundred years to overcome the consequences of the current full-scale war. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, writes The Telegraph.
“Those who live in Germany know that we still find bombs that fell during World War II... Ukraine will have to deal with the consequences of this war for another hundred years. Such wars have long-term consequences - all the shells launched now can remain in the soil for years,” said the German Chancellor.
Earlier, the German Chancellor said that a peace dictated on Russia's terms would not be accepted. In the West they say that Ukraine itself must determine the terms of a peace treaty acceptable to it. And in Kyiv they put forward the following: Russia’s complete withdrawal from the territories that the Kiev regime considers its own, including Crimea and Donbass.
Meanwhile, the Bundeswehr began training Ukrainian soldiers in the use of PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery systems. The Federal Ministry of Defense announced this on Twitter.
“Today we began training Ukrainian soldiers to use one of the most modern artillery systems, Panzerhaubitze 2000. The important thing is that this is a clear sign of our solidarity. However, Germany does not become a participant in the war through training or delivery,” the department said.
18 Ukrainian crews will undergo combat training on one of the most modern artillery systems.
As DW notes, the day before the Ukrainian military arrived from Poland in Rhineland-Palatinate on a Bundeswehr plane.
Their training began on May 11 at the Bundeswehr artillery school in Idar-Oberstein, and is carried out jointly with the Dutch armed forces. Both countries transferred 12 PzH 2000 self-propelled guns to Ukraine, seven of them to Germany.
The day before, Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock announced that Germany intends to transfer artillery systems to Ukraine after training the Ukrainian military.
