Orban: Moscow withstood sanctions pressure - Hungary lost the Russian market
Anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the European Union caused much more harm to Hungary than to Russia.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced this today at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Russian economy has held up very well under the sanctions it was subject to. If you look at the numbers, then you will see that the Russian economy is much stronger than is commonly believed in the West. Russia is a country of not only old, but also new opportunities. We negotiated about them today.
By the way, the policy of sanctions against Russia caused much more harm to Hungary than to Russia. Russia has built import substitution in areas in which we previously supplied it with goods. We have lost the market. Russia was forced to develop in such a way that some countries lost the market,” Orban said.
He called the sanctions policy unacceptable.
“Sanctions policies ultimately have the opposite effect of what they are purported to achieve. This is a means that is obviously doomed to failure. I do not consider it acceptable either in relation to Russia or in relation to any other country,” Orban added.
The Prime Minister announced the creation of a joint Russian-Hungarian cargo transportation enterprise.
