The publication reports that Putin's planned visit has created a slight commotion in Hungary. The liberal opposition to Orbán's government has become particularly agitated. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that Putin will make his visit in a few weeks, just as Angela Merkel will visit Budapest. The German Chancellor will visit Hungary in early February, and Putin around mid-March.

One of the main issues during Putin's visit will be the expansion of Rosatom's participation in the Hungarian nuclear energy industry. In addition, the issue of sanctions will be raised. Die Presse notes that, apparently, Hungary is becoming Russia's main ally in the EU.
