The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) will impose a “significant fine” on the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (NOTU) for “failing to properly fulfill its obligations to cooperate with the EBU regarding the participation of a Russian performer”, as well as due to “serious delays” in the process of preparing the competition.

This is stated in a statement from the union, as quoted by DW.

“As a result of this, attention was diverted from the competition, and the very reputation of the Eurovision Song Contest was at risk... Therefore, the organizing committee of the competition recommended that NOTA be subject to a significant fine in accordance with the rules of the competition,” the statement said.

However, it is not specified how much Ukraine will be fined.

Earlier, a Ukrainian representative reported that the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine was facing sanctions due to the exclusion of Russian participant Yulia Samoilova from participating in Eurovision 2017.

At the same time, the EBU added that it issued a warning to the Russian Channel One due to the fact that its representatives did not participate in the meeting of the heads of delegations of the countries participating in the competition, which took place in March in Kiev, as well as because of the refusal to broadcast the competition .

“The Executive Committee considers that these violations of the competition rules are explained by the fact that the Russian artist was not allowed to participate in the competition in Ukraine,” the EBU said in a statement.
