Western weapons reserves are drying up, Ukraine spent six months' reserve in three weeks - analyst
The stocks of Western countries that supply weapons and ammunition to Ukraine are running out, and Ukraine is overusing the ammunition that its partners give it.
The director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces, retired colonel Yuri Knutov, announced this on the air of the Internet channel “Volnaya Street”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, according to Knutov, the Ukrainian Armed Forces used up the stock of missiles for the NASAMS air defense systems transferred to the United States in three weeks. The situation is the same with missiles for the S-300 and other complexes.
“Of the 30 NATO countries that participated in the latest meeting on arms supplies to Ukraine, 20 countries said that their arsenals were depleted. That is, there is nothing left to supply, they can only supply some humanitarian things, such as field hospitals, winter uniforms, helmets, and so on. The weapons themselves are all gone from the arsenals. This does not mean that they have no weapons left at all - they are forced to save a certain percentage for themselves.
If we talk about ten countries, then these are mainly European, they are ready to supply. Someone is thinking, Poland plans to supply 70 more T-72 tanks, Greece has quite serious anti-aircraft missile systems, the Americans are putting pressure on Greece to transfer two S-300PMU divisions to Ukraine. There are more than 30 Tor complexes of the first modification and OSA-AKM complexes,” the expert said.
“In principle, this allows us to create a layered defense of a small area. Not all of Ukraine, of course, but, let’s say, part of Kyiv can be covered or some small city can be protected using these means. But let's not forget such an important thing as missile reserves.
The Americans donated the systems to NASAMS, but it turned out very interesting that the Ukrainian military, overjoyed, used up this supply in literally three weeks. That is, what was planned to be used within six months. The story is the same with missiles for the S-300 complex, they are also running out in Ukraine, and other systems are also experiencing a shortage of missiles and a shortage of ammunition,” Knutov said.
