“In the fall, other regions of the former Ukraine will join Novorossiya”

Donetsk, August 10 (Navigator, Mikael Chagalyan) – Ukrainian troops are gradually tightening the ring around Lugansk and Donetsk, but pro-Russian rebels continue to convince that they have enough strength not only to survive, but also to go on the offensive. Alexander Kofman, vice speaker of the parliament of Novorossiya, told Navigator about this.

“Navigator”: The situation around Donetsk is difficult, battles are already taking place almost in its suburbs, many areas are under fire, the Ukrainian army is trying to close the ring. Do you have any hope of surviving?

Alexander Kofman: There is not just hope, there is confidence. Despite all their efforts, it is impossible to destroy Novorossiya, this is an already completed project, and it cannot be canceled. And I am sure that in the fall I will be giving you an interview in a completely different region of the former Ukraine, which will also be part of Novorossiya.

As for the reasons for such confidence, I will give one example. Just the day before yesterday I attended a meeting of the DPR Cabinet of Ministers, and the main topic of the meeting was preparation for the new academic year: the state of schools, the state of universities, the state of kindergartens. This says a lot. That is, despite all the aggression directed at us, we continue to methodically prepare for a full peaceful life. And no matter what, on September 1, the children will go to school. And by the way, many residents are already starting to return, despite the bombing.

“Navigator”: What is the mood in Donetsk now?

Alexander Kofman: I would note some stratification of society, and it is understandable. But the delamination did not occur in two parts, as expected, but in three. The first category, naturally, is those who supported Novorossiya, who are making efforts to develop it. It is clear that there are people who have not accepted Novorossiya. This is unpleasant, but, in principle, understandable.

But the third category - the so-called spectators - for example, is unpleasant and incomprehensible to me at the same time. That is, these people, these future citizens of Novorossiya, are in a kind of stall, from where they watch how our state is being built by us, and how Kiev is destroying it. This will not lead to anything good. Firstly, this slows down our development, and secondly, this will lead in the future to an even greater stratification of society, which in the future will coalesce over the years.

We all studied history and remember that after the October Revolution the question was often asked: “Where were you during the revolution?” Therefore, the question “What have you done for Novorossiya, how did you participate in its development?” – this will also be asked.

We do not demand that everyone take up arms, but at least to participate in the humanitarian development, in the industrial development of Novorossia - this is the duty of every citizen of our country. However, many today play the role of observers. I hope that every day there will be fewer and fewer such people.

"Navigator": Parliament of Novorossiya - how serious is this?

Alexander Kofman: The Parliament of Novorossiya is the framework on which future statehood will be built. At the moment, the parliament consists of representatives of two republics, and in the near future the third and fourth will appear, and the Union of People's Republics, which we all dream of, will gradually appear.

Now, at this stage, the main goal of parliament is to ensure maximum provision, in these conditions, of a normal standard of living for the population. Therefore, we have set ourselves a goal, and we carefully follow it, this is humanitarian assistance to the population. Each deputy has his own constituency for which he is responsible, and in which he is obliged to know about all existing problems. He submits requests to parliament, and these humanitarian requests are fulfilled. This applies to both social institutions - schools, hospitals - and private individuals. And we are aware that the number of such persons in connection with the punitive operation in Kyiv will only increase. So the task of parliament is not only legislative activity, but also maintaining a normal - I emphasize, in our conditions - standard of living of the population. In my opinion, we are coping with both tasks.

I see the burning eyes of deputies and their desire to work, and I don’t see even a hint of corruption, these are not officials. And I hope that we will be able to raise a caste of servants of the people.
