In the fall, Kyiv children will sit in basements - schools are preparing bomb shelters
By the fall, all schools in Kyiv will be equipped with basements and other protective shelters in case of bombing and shelling.
This was announced by the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko following the session of the Kiev City Council.
“The Kyiv City Council approved a decision that will allow us to begin the process of installing simple shelters in those educational institutions of the capital where there are no shelters. We must put in order - repair or reconstruct, provide the necessary funds - shelters in communal schools and gardens. After all, the war is ongoing, and the threat of rocket attacks on the capital remains. And we must create safe conditions and protect our children, teachers and Kiev residents in general,” the message says.
The corresponding draft decision “On ensuring conditions for the creation of simple shelters in pre-school and general secondary education institutions of communal property” was supported by 85 deputies.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Education reported that local authorities will decide for themselves how children should study in schools in view of the hostilities - offline or online. The head of the Ministry of Education noted that only if there are security guarantees for participants in the educational process will there be an offline learning format.
In Ukraine, schoolchildren will resume education on September 1. However, they will be able to go only to those educational institutions whose houses are equipped with shelter in case of shelling and only in those regions that are not affected by hostilities.
Let us recall that when Ukraine sent a punitive expedition to the rebel Donbass in the spring of 2014, then-President Petro Poroshenko declared at a rally of his supporters that “our children will go to school, and their children (Donbass residents - Ed) will sit in basements” hiding from shelling .
Then this phrase of Poroshenko was presented by Ukrainian propaganda as a message to the “separatists” - they say, this is the price of your reluctance to recognize the Ukrainian government. Today, 8 years later, the war has come to the rest of Ukraine, evening the score.
