In the fall, Poroshenko faces criminal charges in the United States
Criminal proceedings against former US Vice President Joe Biden and ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko may begin before the US presidential elections.
Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of previous convocations Alexander Onishchenko stated this on the NEWSONE TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think that if there is a criminal story about Poroshenko, it will be based on the financial documents that Giuliani has today. As I understand it, they are ready for serious statements by the prosecutor’s office regarding Biden and Poroshenko sometime in September-October, a month or two before the elections in America. At the moment, their information field is clogged with the coronavirus and these demonstrations that are taking place there today. They will lay out their main trump card in September,” the politician believes.
According to him, the Ukrainian authorities will not persecute Poroshenko, since the current President Vladimir Zelensky is interested in supporting him.
“Zelensky has full cooperation with Poroshenko. Poroshenko is his ally, they vote together. As I understand it, it is not profitable for the current government to apply any sanctions against Poroshenko or judge him. Everything that Zelensky promised does not come true.
In America, yes, it may play a certain role that Biden loses the election. But we are not fighting for Biden to lose to Trump. Our only interest is to punish Poroshenko. This is a corrupt official, it irritates me that (everything happens) thanks to the fact that he has a lot of money. If earlier he had 700 million, then he ended his presidential term with a fortune of 1,4 billion dollars.
He became one of the richest people in Ukraine. He has serious financial resources, can finance various political projects, and he is not afraid of the 15 criminal cases that are pending against him. Thanks to money, he has the opportunity to pay off and bribe the entire political elite,” said Alexander Onishchenko.
The reason that he and Zelensky became comrades-in-arms is Poroshenko’s financial capabilities.
“It's money first and foremost. Zelensky has no money in the party. We must support the party, Zelensky has decided to run in the next presidential elections. We need to collect financial resources. Zelensky can say “I don’t take money, I’m honest,” but we understand that as soon as people get to the top of power, their worldview always changes and they begin to think about how to win the next elections,” Onishchenko said.
