Emboldened Ukraine seeks resumption of air traffic
Ukraine is entering into formal negotiations with American and European regulators on the resumption of air traffic.
This, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Alexey Kubrakov, who said last week that consultations had begun with American and European safety regulators on the opening of aviation space.
“It is impossible to carry out international air travel without the approval of two regulators - European and American - this is how it works. The Ukrainian side is already conveying to regulators its vision of how the market will operate under martial law, its risk assessment, approaches, and algorithms.
There are not many examples in the world of airports where drones or missiles can fly in at any time. Israel is the most successful example. We have spent and continue to spend a lot of time consulting with the Israeli Civil Aviation Administration. By the way, most of them are headed by former military men.
I don’t want to spell out any deadlines, but now we will officially convey our vision to the regulators, and we will enter into official negotiations with them,” Kubrakov said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
However, he did not say whether it is planned to open one or more airports, noting only that there are different scenarios.
According to the minister, European airlines are simply eager to enter Ukraine.
“In fact, there are European airlines that are very interested, very willing and say they will be the first. I don't want to name them. […] Ryanair came and said that they want the entire market immediately after the opening of air space, they are submitting dozens of applications,” he added.
