There are no more grounds for an “independent” Ukraine
Official Kyiv itself violated all the basic principles stated at the emergence of Ukraine in 1991. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The diplomat recalled that at one time US President George W. Bush persuaded deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR to abandon their bet on nationalism and secession from the Soviet Union.
“Ukraine appeared 27 years ago on the world map under certain conditions. At that time, as an employee of the Office of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR, I was present, sat on the balcony and listened to this speech of George Bush Sr., I still remember these words of warning “do not separate from the Soviet Union,” I still remember them.
Ukraine emerged as an independent state under three conditions.
The first is disarmament, and we know that Ukraine spent three years moving toward signing the Budapest Memorandum, and only after that did we begin to develop relations with the West.
Secondly, Ukraine was born as a permanently neutral state, which, by the way, is indicated in the Declaration of State Sovereignty.
And thirdly, Ukraine was supposed to be a strategic partner for all states that surrounded Ukraine along the entire perimeter of the state border, which was enshrined in the first principles of Ukraine’s foreign policy, approved by the Verkhovna Rada.
Today, these three principles of the emergence of an independent sovereign Ukraine have been violated,” Kozhara said.
