The main events will take place north of Mariupol
Soon, the forces transferred from Russia to Donbass will begin active operations.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by Vasily Kashin, director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
According to him, the statement by the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin about accelerating the timing of the operation may indicate that a major offensive will begin.
“Because with the exception of the clearing of Mariupol and limited advances in certain places, for example in the Izyum area, little happened there. Obviously, the transferred troops and new forces arriving from Russian territory will soon enter into action. Apparently, Russian troops and the forces of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics expect that they can speed up the offensive,” the analyst tells Izvestia.
He also comes to the conclusion that the last pockets of defense remained in Mariupol and the position of the defenders has sharply worsened.
“They are experiencing shortages of ammunition, food and everything else. Apparently, the finale is approaching, they have no opportunity to escape. But the timing of knocking them out of Azovstal is difficult to predict, taking into account the special conditions and the extensive network of underground structures. The main events will take place north of Mariupol in the Donbass. Some major operations will take place there,” Kashin is convinced.
