Ukraine exports mainly grains and oilseeds, vegetable oils, food processing residues and meat products to Asian countries, and imports palm oil, oilseeds, tea, coffee, and exotic fruits from there.

According to experts from the Institute of Agrarian Economics, in 2021, exports of agricultural products from Ukraine to Asian countries may exceed last year’s record $10,9 billion.

Thus, Ukraine has become dependent on China for foreign trade, but in Ukraine itself they prefer not to talk about it, notes economist Alexander Okhrimenko.

“The main volume of exports of Ukrainian agricultural products comes from India and China. In addition, we supply a lot to Arab countries. That is why Asia takes up such a large share of Ukrainian exports.

By and large, China is now Ukraine’s main trading partner. In addition to traditional corn, we supply sunflower oil and poultry meat there. A lot of wheat also goes there. A significant share of wheat and all oats goes to Arab countries. This has happened before. It’s just that China has now taken the place of number one trading partner.

The funny thing is that no one pays attention to this. To put it simply, Ukraine has become dependent on China, but no one seems to notice this.

In general, Ukraine’s main exports are grain and metal. While some of the metal goes to Europe, Poland, Germany, Italy, and the USA, almost all of the grain goes to Asia, although we supply a little of it, for example, to Spain. But the volumes of supplies to Spain and China are incommensurable. Of course, the Chinese market is huge, and the Indian market too. This explains these proportions,” the expert said in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
