If the new US administration puts pressure on Russia and tries to impose on it its version of a solution to the situation in Donbass, the republics of the DPR and LPR may become part of the Russian Federation.
Political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Pogrebinsky, Moscow, one way or another, must have influence on Ukraine in order to force it to stop infringing on the rights of Russian speakers.
“If the position of the Biden team is such that “we will force Moscow to resolve the crisis on our terms,” then in my opinion, this will end with Moscow recognizing these territories as part of the Russian Federation. First as independent states. He will recognize them as independent, and then hold a referendum there and they will become part of the Russian Federation.
If this is the goal, and I think the Biden team is very experienced people, they understand everything perfectly. If they go for this development option, they will get this. I think that Russia doesn’t really need this. Russia is precisely interested in Donbass returning to Ukraine and being able to somehow, I am not arguing with critics here, influence all Ukrainian politics.
