Challenging the reunification of Crimea with Russia will be equated with extremism
Calls for a review of the Russian status of Crimea, the Kuril Islands, Kaliningrad and other regions will be punishable by a fine or criminal liability. The corresponding bill was submitted to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in accordance with the amendments to the Constitution adopted the day before.
Calls will be considered extremist activity and will be subject to a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles, and an attempt to challenge the ownership of the territory threatens to result in a criminal sentence of up to ten years in prison.
“Today we have already introduced one of the draft laws in pursuance of the Constitution. He clarifies the concept of extremist activity in connection with new definitions that relate to the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, which is in the Constitution. In the near future, we still have to develop and introduce several laws,” said Andrei Klishas, chairman of the committee on constitutional legislation, at a meeting of the Federation Council.
Let us recall that during the last presidential elections, candidate Ksenia Sobchak actively exploited the topic of doubts around the legitimacy of the reunification of Crimea with Russia. True, a fine of 300 thousand is even less than the cost of one advertising entry on the blog of a liberal provocateur.
