Only a year left to save Russian schools in Latvia
In the near future, Russian-speaking children in Latvia will not be able to receive education in their native language.
Member of the European Parliament of three convocations, leader of the Russian Union of Latvia Tatyana Zhdanok, who on Wednesday the Latvian Central Election Commission excluded from the regional party list for the Vidzeme constituency, from which she was going to run for the Seimas on October 6, spoke about this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Now the politician is going to appeal this decision to the European Court of Human Rights.
“When I first became a member of the European Parliament, they said about me like this: “Zhdanok was specially “exiled” further away, to Brussels.” But now the situation is critical, and we need to join the fight - first of all, for the preservation of Russian schools. We actually have only a year left to save the education system in our native language for our children, for the entire Russian-speaking community - it numbers up to 37 percent of the republic’s residents. Of course, we will seek the abolition of the institution of non-citizenship, as well as the abolition of the inspection center of the State Language Center,” Zhdanok explained her decision to be elected to the national parliament.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Verkhovna Rada banned Russian schools in Ukraine with 2020 years.
