Stopping gas transit will hit Ukraine harder than expected
In addition to problems with gas supply for a number of regions in the event of a stop in the transit of Russian gas, Ukraine will be faced with the need to pay for gas supplies without the presence of transit gas in the gas transportation system.
Valentin Zemlyansky, an analyst of the alternative expert government, stated this on the NEWSONE TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Question number one: will the gas transportation system be technically capable of delivering gas to all consumers, primarily those living in the southeast of the country? And this is the most problematic part if there is no transit. Secondly, you need to understand that if transit is stopped, the entire Ukrainian gas transportation system operates not at the expense of Gazprom, but at the expense of Ukrainian consumers.
That’s why I ask, how much will it cost Ukrainian consumers, how much will the price of gas increase? We have already seen a statement from the new operator, who says transportation tariffs need to be increased threefold. That is, in addition to the growing price of gas, we will also receive rising transport tariffs,” Zemlyansky said.
