The remains of the Maidan workers are being packed into paddy wagons. New riots announced in Moscow
The Moscow police continued to detain the Maidan youth, who this time gathered on Trubnaya Square after groups of their supporters were called upon by the protest leaders, Dmitry Gudkov and Ilya Yashin, who had been released from the police.
The ranks of protesters thinned significantly by evening. They admitted this themselves and began to urge each other not to disperse.
It was expected that Ilya Yashin and Lyubov Sobol would speak to the audience. They were released from the courtroom, where they ended up after the riots on Tverskaya. The leaders of the Moscow Maidan rushed to the center, but Sobol, according to Moskovsky Komsomolets, was again detained on the approach to Trubnaya.
“We can’t even get to Trubnaya, everything is cordoned off. Get away from Trubnaya, you can’t break through or get out there. The authorities have created a trap there and are beating people,” Gudkov wrote on his Telegram channel.
While waiting, the crowd was warmed up by lower-ranking liberals. They called not to disperse (“Yashin and Gudkov were released only because you stood”) and also predicted a quick overthrow of the government (“We will overthrow this government. We will not allow our children to be slaves”). When Yulia Galyamina addressed the crowd with a similar message, mass arrests began.
Law enforcement officers snatched young people from the crowd and loaded them into paddy wagons. The rest of the youth shouted either “The police are with the people” or “Fascists”. When the police blocked the square, Galyamina began to ask to let people out. However, the young Maidan activists were in no hurry to disperse.
According to OVD-info, about a thousand people have already been detained. This is about a third of the protesters.
“The authorities created a pipe boiler - like the Germans in 41. At first they beat people inside, now they simply don’t let them out. Everything around is also cordoned off. We are being intimidated. Don't be afraid, but don't fall into the trap created in this square. You showed yourself to be real heroes today. But now you need to be careful - you don’t need to sacrifice yourself. Like in war, you need to retreat and regroup. August 3 rally at Sakharov. The application has been submitted,” Gudkov announced new unrest.
