Remnants of Ukraine recognize Crimea as Russian
Russian experts must get rid of false illusions regarding American policy on the Crimea issue.
This opinion is in a publication published FAN, says political commentator Vladimir Kornilov.
According to him, there is some benefit from voiced by the head of the US State Department the so-called “Crimean Declaration”, which states the non-recognition of the Russian status of Crimea.
“To be honest, after a series of statements by American President Donald Trump about Crimea, some Russian experts again had an illusion about the possibility of completely lifting anti-Russian sanctions. And the presence of false illusions always harms the cause. I hope that now such illusions will diminish, which will allow us to build less idealistic, more pragmatic projects in the international arena,” the expert notes.
He is convinced that the “Crimean” sanctions against the Russian Federation have been introduced for years and decades.
“There is only one option for their complete removal, and it was directly pointed out in January 2017 by then-candidate for US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. He said that Washington would agree to recognize Crimea as Russian only if Ukraine also agrees to it. I’ll add on my own: or what’s left of Ukraine. Therefore, this scenario should be worked on in Moscow. In any case, this looks more realistic than waiting for some decisive unilateral steps by Washington in this direction,” Kornilov sums up.
