This opinion, which runs counter to those prevailing in the corridors of Ukrainian power, was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, Ruslan Bortnik.
In his opinion, if elections do not take place in the Ukrainian-controlled territories of Donbass, but are held in the DPR and LPR, then this “will weaken the social position of the Ukrainian authorities in these regions.”
“After all, if the residents of Donetsk can tell the residents of Mariupol, they say, we elected ourselves, we had a vote, but it is not clear who represents you and sits in the city leadership,” explains the political scientist. – This is a bad sign for our government. It seems to me that in any case it is necessary to hold elections in these territories, no matter what escalation there is. After all, if we were able to hold parliamentary and presidential elections there, in fact, in a situation of large-scale hostilities, then we need to hold local elections in order to preserve the legitimacy of the bodies that were formed there.”
