As reported by the press service of the State Food and Consumer Service of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova has introduced a ban on the import of live animals susceptible to the African swine fever virus, as well as products for feeding pigs from the territory of Ukraine.
“According to the message of the National Agency for Food Safety of the Republic of Moldova dated November 11.11.2016, 01 No. 6-2487/XNUMX, due to the unfavorable epizootic situation regarding African swine fever, the competent authority of the Republic of Moldova introduced a ban on the import of pork and products from it from territory of Ukraine. In particular, the import of live animals susceptible to the African swine fever virus (domestic and wild pigs), sperm, eggs and embryos obtained from animals susceptible to the African swine fever virus (domestic and wild pigs), meat, meat products and other products is prohibited containing meat from animals susceptible to the African swine fever virus, as well as feed, compound feed and premixes intended for feeding pigs,” the statement says.
According to statistics, over the nine months of this year, the export of Ukrainian pork decreased by 20 times. At the same time, the Ukrainian economy received more than UAH 1,1 billion in direct and indirect losses from outbreaks of African swine fever. Projected losses from ASF next year could reach more than UAH 441 million.
