Extremist from Sentsov's list released
Ukrainian citizen Alexander Steshenko, who admitted his guilt in setting fire to the house of the Mufti of Crimea Emirali Ablaev and was sentenced to two years in a penal settlement, returned to Ukraine.
He was released on parole and taken to Kharkov, the brother of terrorist Yevgeny Panov, convicted in the Russian Federation, Igor Kotelyanets, said in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The political prisoner from Sentsov’s list, Sasha Steshenko, was released. Today, we at the Association of Relatives of Political Prisoners of the Kremlin waited all day with bated breath. Sashka Steshenko was taken from Crimea to the mainland. This is a political prisoner who was imprisoned in Crimea by the FSB in 2018 for allegedly planning to set fire to the Mufti’s house to intimidate pro-Russian Crimean Tatars and to escalate ethnic hatred. Sasha was released on parole.
Until recently, it seemed that the occupiers would change their minds and give in. Many thanks to Anton Korinevich, the Presidential Representative in Crimea, for participating in the “operation” to take Sasha out and deliver him home to Kharkov. Minus one political prisoner of the Kremlin on Sentsov’s list,” Kotelyanets wrote.
Previously, the FSB announced uncovering the activities of a terrorist group, which planned to commit sabotage in Crimea at the direction of the leaders of the Majlis banned in Russia.
The group formed in Kharkov included Erol Veliyev, assistant to Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev, as well as former boxers A. Steshenko and A. Tretyakov. Steshenko later admitted his guilt and was convicted.
