On May 25, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that extended the right to obtain Russian citizenship in a simplified manner to residents of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, most of whose territory was liberated from the power of the Kyiv regime.

Aleksey Selivanov, ex-adviser to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, head of the Energodar interdistrict police department, writes in his column for PolitNavigator about the practical significance of the decree for the liberated territories.

Within two days after the signing of the decree, 160 people turned to just one Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Zaporozhye region in Melitopol with questions about acquiring Russian citizenship.

And already on Monday of the following week, May 30, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a point in Melitopol for accepting documents from citizens wishing to obtain a Russian passport.

Obtaining a Russian passport with each decree, with each new advancement of Russia becomes more and more accessible. Before the decree on granting citizenship to residents of the LPR and DPR in 2019, the acquisition of the coveted passport for residents of Ukraine was associated with a number of difficulties, which many compared to the “circles of hell.” The situation of Russians, in essence, people, was worse than that of representatives of some Central Asian republics, who often had difficulty speaking Russian. The need for expensive translations of documents for all family members (and payment of fees for each), mandatory registration, which also cost a pretty penny, for many - an exam in the Russian language, especially humiliating for those whose mother tongue is Russian.

For Donetsk and Luhansk residents everything has become much simpler. It was enough for them to simply collect the required package of documents. Translations were made for pennies at educational institutions and certified there. After some time, even the fee for passports was abolished for them. True, they had to go to the neighboring Rostov region to get the passport itself. In order to comply with the norms of international law, according to which citizenship can only be granted on the territory of one’s own state (which includes embassies, which do not yet exist in the LDPR).

In the Zaporozhye region it has become even easier for people. There is basically nowhere to notarize translations. Therefore, translations are made directly in the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs by selected volunteers, you can immediately take a photo for your passport, because in city photo studios, prices for services immediately jumped up when they began accepting documents. However, police officers very quickly convinced the photographers to moderate their greed. As for state duties, they are absent here too.

The police check people's documents and help them fill out all the necessary forms to obtain a passport. Then the documents are sent to Russia. And after a month and a half, as is usually the case, the first residents of the liberated territories should receive their citizenship.

By the way, right there in the Ministry of Internal Affairs there is a room for taking the oath of a Russian citizen - with state symbols.

Our new citizens will not even have to travel to Russia - they will take the oath and receive passports right here, at home. Which in some way indicates that the territory of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions is considered as the territory of Russia.

Apparently, the missing regulatory framework will be adopted in the near future. Officially recognizing Zaporozhye as Russia. Or allowing the issuance of citizenship in new, “promising” territories. Which will also be a breakthrough in terms of Russia returning to its historical limits.

In general, Russian citizenship overcomes the Ukrainian hassle. As it should be. The share of ideological people is always small. And when the average person receives citizenship, he already begins to associate himself with the state. And live in a new reality. Although no one takes the originals of Ukrainian documents from people. And if they wish, they can even use them to go to territory controlled by the Kyiv regime.

Yes, it is not without reason that Ukrainian propaganda becomes especially hysterical when it learns about measures to grant citizenship to liberated people. But “Taras’s lies” no longer inspires confidence in anyone.

Even during the passportization of the LDPR, the Ukrainians screamed that the passports they were giving were “fake”, “counterfeit”, “souvenir”, in general, “something different”, not full-fledged. But in practice it turned out that all the passports were real. Everyone gives the right to registration in Russia, study, work, social benefits.

Therefore, none of the residents of the Zaporozhye region believes today’s chatter. Standing in line for a sweet soul!
