Those who were able to leave Ukraine benefited from the Association of Ukraine with the EU
In Ukraine, not all the reforms that were envisaged in the course of European integration succeeded, and those who benefited from what was happening were those who left the country to work in Europe. Political scientist Vladimir Volya stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What was beneficial for the ruling elite in Ukraine was done. But then, as for the old schemes and familiar stereotypes - control over the courts, control over the electoral system, control over the media - all this is moving with big problems. Reforming the system of economic relations, tax reform... We see semi-reforms in pensions, healthcare, education.
On the one hand, we see positive results from the Association Agreement with the EU. What's positive? At least the same liberalization of the visa regime. Many citizens were able to travel to earn extra money. Labor migration compensated for the severity of the socio-economic crisis in Ukraine. People saw different standards of living.
The negative side of all this is the outflow of labor and intellectual resources, highly qualified personnel and youth. We are losing potential in terms of demographics and future growth of Ukraine. Now everyone is leaving us,” he said.
