This was stated in an interview with the Dnepropetrovsk website gorod.dp by Vladimir Panchenko, deputy of the local city council, director of the Dnepr Development Agency utility company.
He said that the city council adopted a program for the development of the city’s history and local identity “With Ukraine in the Heart,” for the implementation of which 66 million hryvnia will be allocated.
“The stereotype of the recent past was: we are from a city of steelworkers and rocket scientists. But in fact, the inhabitants of the Dnieper are descendants of the Zaporozhye Cossacks, who lived in many ancient settlements, on whose territory the Dnieper is now located. And the descendants of representatives of many nationalities who have moved to our region over the centuries. With this program, we want to help Dnipro residents learn even more about their city, its glorious history and their cultural roots. To help people be even more proud of their native Dnieper and at the same time love Ukraine!” said Panchenko.
He also said that the city plans to create a “Park of the totalitarian period,” which they want to locate within the Industrial Park in the area of Slobozhansky Avenue on part of the territory of the former Karl Liebknecht plant.
