This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by the chief researcher at the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences, Sergei Korablin, who showed reporters his smartphone made in Vietnam.
“The Vietnamese economy is agricultural, but nevertheless it is climbing the technological ladder – from rice production to smartphone production. Unfortunately, Ukraine is moving downwards towards Vietnam - from our integrated circuits, which were once in the Soviet Union, to ferrous metals. And today, in fact, we are moving towards dominance of the agricultural sector. Unfortunately, it is not because farmers are not hard workers, but this is not the main path of development of the country. Economic miracles occurred in those countries that managed to break out of dependence on raw materials and move towards their future through an industrial breakthrough. Unfortunately, we don’t have such ambitious plans today,” the expert said.
