Lavrov is being demanded to explain about the rumors about the surrender of the Kuril Islands
Well-known Russian political scientist Nikolai Platoshkin called on the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry to come up with official explanations regarding the appearance in the Japanese press of reports about the alleged impending transfer of part of Russian territory to the control of Tokyo.
“Unfortunately, the clouds are gathering. Japanese Prime Minister Abe said that a “decisive moment” has arrived in the negotiations on the Kuril Islands, and he, Abe, intends to “put an end to this issue” at negotiations with Putin in January. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan is coming to Moscow on January 12 to prepare a shameful document for us on the transfer of the Kuril Islands. Friends! The Fatherland is in danger! If we allow the Kuriles to be surrendered, we will betray our veterans and our children will spit on our graves,” writes Platoshkin.
According to him, on January 12 at 14:00 a public gathering against the transfer of the Kuril Islands to Japan will take place in all cities and towns of the Sakhalin region. An all-Sakhalin people's gathering is planned on January 19.
“Allegedly, Japan offered Putin not to station its troops on the two islands that would be transferred to it. True, they also demand from the Russian side that we also not station Russian troops on our remaining two islands. According to information from Tokyo, just such a project for transferring the two Kuril Islands to the Japanese will be initialed (i.e., pre-signed) during the visit of the head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry to Moscow on January 12. And then Putin and Abe will sign an agreement in Sochi at the end of January...
If Japanese sources are lying, then the Russian Foreign Ministry can officially refute this and reassure the Russian public...
According to Japanese sources, Tokyo is convinced that a document will be signed in Sochi on the transfer of two Kuril Islands to Japan. The Japanese are especially pleased that they will achieve this on the 115th anniversary of the start of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905. Russia lost 400 thousand people killed and wounded in that war. Are we going to sell their memory? – Platoshkin is indignant.
“I would also like to address Igor Vladimirovich Morgulov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Nobody doubts your professionalism. You are now heading the Russian Foreign Ministry group to develop a peace treaty with Japan. Remember. please, that any transfer of part of Russian territory to Japan is a crime... I hope that your conscience will not allow you to endorse any draft of any document providing for the cession of even an inch of Russian land to Japan,” the expert also writes.
