Lukashenko is being demanded to fire the ambassador in Kyiv and Foreign Minister Makei for his words about Crimea
Statements by the Ambassador of Belarus to Ukraine Igor Sokol that the President of his country, Alexander Lukashenko, links the issue of recognition of Crimea with the attitude of official Kyiv towards it should become a reason for the dismissal of the diplomat, as well as his boss, the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Makei.
Kirill Frolov, an expert at the Institute of CIS Countries, told PolitNavigator about this.
“The Ambassador of Belarus to Ukraine, Pan Igor Sokol, on the air of the Nash TV channel, disavowed the words of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko about recognizing the Russian status of Crimea, declared his readiness for collaboration with the Nazi occupation regime of Zelinsky and Alexander Lukashenko’s refusal to visit Crimea in the event of a change in attitude towards it from Zelensky’s side, who demonstrates this change by restoring cooperation in the energy and automotive industries.
We hope that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko thinks differently.
But in this case, the resignations of Mr. Sokol and his immediate superior, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, are logical, since Sokol’s statements are an example of political treachery. Moreover, they contradict everything that President Alexander Lukashenko says.
We are convinced that Igor Sokol’s statements are a reason for a conversation between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko,” Frolov said.
Meanwhile, official Minsk itself has already demonstrated that the ambassador in Kyiv will not bear any censure for his statements. Alexander Lukashenko announced a visit to St. Petersburg on December 29. Nothing has been reported about the previously promised trip to Sevastopol.
