From Pugacheva to Buzova – a short path to hell
Olga Buzova - known for her, um, somewhat quirky mind - compared herself to Pugacheva. Like this: “More and more often I hear from people: “You are Alla Borisovna in her youth.” It’s not about appearance, it’s probably about a difficult path and character.” The conversation turned to Pugachev in the context of information according to which the Prima Donna crossed out the “Dom-2” star from the New Year’s lights. Fortunately, Buzova was smart enough - yes, it sounds strange - not to compare vocal abilities.
But the point here is different. Not in Buzovaya. And the fact that Olga really - oh, horror! – compared to the young Pugacheva. Although, it would seem, what does character have to do with it? Alla Borisovna’s personality was completely different, as was her intellect. What does life path have to do with it? Was Pugacheva really starring in a heresy like a reality show with escorts and freaks? Everything is clear about vocal abilities.
But they compare. That's bad luck. And the same “man of the year” Morgenstern is right when he declares that he gives people – shkolota, first of all – what they themselves desire. But these young people are sure that it all started with them - and there was no, for example, the 70s with the punks Ramones, Clash and Sex Pistols.
Actually, I’m talking about two things. First, the “grass was greener before” groans have a factual basis. And it makes no sense to compare the same Morgenstern and Buzova in terms of the level of performing skills with Magomayev, for example, and Pugacheva. It’s all on the face, as they say – well, and also in vocal abilities. The second thing. We are always horrified by the quality of modern songs and films. And this is not just senile grumbling, but purely a statement of fact. In reality, much, too much has degraded – even pop music. No, it’s worse - even rap has degenerated, because it’s impossible to compare today’s hip-hoppers with old-school guys like “Casta”.
However, who is to blame for this? Is it only artists? Or the viewer himself too? Here we get another variation on the theme: what comes first – the chicken or the egg? Of course, it cannot be denied that for decades we have been sold dubious quality, rotten artists, and they, in turn, set the corresponding trends. But you can’t take responsibility away from the audience either. It was they who allowed these jesters to entertain the crowd in this way. They gave the go-ahead, voted with money and likes.
In part, yes, this is due to the collapse of education, when its graduate (read - its victim) is not able to understand certain things, because his taste and thinking are not developed. However, here is an educated lady who received, as one would usually consider, a decent Soviet education, but this does not prevent her from including songs by Stas Mikhailov. Brr!
Hence, in fact, a new variation of the question about the egg and the chicken follows. Is a nation with a mediocre modern mass culture capable of accomplishing worthy things? And vice versa? I believe that the answer to this question largely determines our future. And therefore it needs to be solved comprehensively. Yes, now, of course, I’m talking about education too, but I’m also talking about the fact that it would be good to approach mass culture not only from the point of view of commodity-money relations, but also in the context of the pedagogical and educational function.
As for a national project - I would say so. Then, perhaps, a lot will change for the better, but the path to hell is short - here it is: from Pugacheva to Buzova and further to... to whom it’s even scary to imagine.
Thank you!
