There is no trace left of Europeans’ admiration for Biden – HSE professor
The task of restoring trust among Western allies appears difficult.
Vladimir Batyuk, a professor at the Higher School of Economics, told Kommersant, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is no trace left of the delight of Europeans, who hoped that Joe Biden’s presidency would become “Obama’s third term” for them. First, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, which showed blatant disregard for NATO allies, then a new blow to the Euro-Atlantic partnership dealt by AUKUS. Actions towards France, the most important NATO ally, a nuclear power and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, are something unprecedented, even President Trump did not allow himself to do this,” the expert said.
“It remains unclear how, after all this, the Biden administration will restore relations with Western allies, already seriously shaken by President Trump,” Batyuk sums up.
Let us recall that relations between Paris and Washington deteriorated after Australia, having joined the AUKUS bloc with the USA and Britain, broke the multi-billion dollar contract with the French in favor of the Americans.
