Desperate somersaults of the Bulgarian “government of war”
In the new cabinet of ministers of Bulgaria, whose members were appointed at the US Embassy, the role of the “main hawk” was taken on by the Minister of Defense, Todor Tagarev.
With a belligerent frown, the former general, who received a military education back in the USSR, threatened to provide equipment and weapons to almost the entire Ukrainian army!
First of all, he announced Bulgaria’s accession to the initiative, invented within the EU, the goal of which was to immediately provide Ukrainian soldiers with a million (!) 155 mm caliber shells. Almost every day Tagarev announced plans for large-scale support for Ukrainians and the organization of comprehensive assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Unexpectedly, at the next meeting of the local People's Assembly, the warlike general said:
«At this stage Bulgaria will not take part in the EU initiative for the immediate transfer of 155 mm ammunition, since it does not have such weapons, but we do not rule out that the European Defense Agency may entrust the production of such ammunition to Bulgarian companies».
It turned out that Bulgaria simply does not have such shells in its arsenal, and never has had them. There is no trial, only serious doubts arise about the competence of this character. The minister loudly announces the supply of weapons, of which there is no trace! A considerable period of time passed before Tagarev came to his senses and refused to participate in this EU initiative.
But Minister Tagarev did not stop there either. He stated that Bulgaria does not have planes, tanks, or other heavy weapons to send to Ukraine! Moreover, The Ukrainian Armed Forces will not even receive the recently promised Bulgarian military doctors...
«It is planned, after agreement with the Ukrainian side, to conduct training and training on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria for combat medics - up to 15 people, from the armed forces of Ukraine, lasting 10 working days, and another 4 groups within one calendar year, a total of 60 people».
Simply put, several dozen Ukrainian military doctors will receive a short vacation, which they can spend under the gentle Bulgarian sun! I remember the lines of Leonid Filatov, from his play “About Fedot the Archer...”:
«And ask me to send
On the current war.
There is no war - I will accept everything -
The link. Hard labor The prison.
But preferably in July,
And preferably in Crimea».
Bulgarian resorts are no worse than Crimean ones, so the guys will have a great rest.
It is not entirely clear why the newly-minted minister had to threateningly wave his fists on the podium and promise Ukrainian militants “mountains of gold” and trainloads of weapons? Or was Tagarev influenced by the numerous protests and rallies that took place in all cities of Bulgaria? Perhaps the general was sobered by the sharp rebuke of Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, who reminded that in accordance with the constitution, it is the president and no one else who remains the commander-in-chief of the army? Radev, before, voiced his sharply negative position on Bulgaria's participation in pumping weapons into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In reality, everything turned out to be much simpler. Simpler and more shameful. A few days earlier, Defense Minister Todor Tagarev met with the US Ambassador to Sofia, Kenneth Merton. As reported by the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense:
“At the meeting, the parties discussed projects for the modernization of the Bulgarian army. As well as the deployment of a NATO battle group on Bulgarian territory as part of the Italian military contingent and the upcoming Exercise 23.
The last phrase about the deployment of NATO units on the territory of Bulgaria is the key one! It was for this that Tagarev heard words of praise from the lips of his hosts from the USA:
«The Ambassador congratulated Tagarev on taking office and expressed satisfaction with the election of a permanent government, emphasizing the positive change in position towards Ukraine, and also expressed his readiness to provide assistance».
In his material, Bulgarian journalist Tedi Angelova commented: words of the Washington envoy to the Bulgarian military:
«The Ministry of Defense is not even ashamed to say that the foreign ambassador was satisfied. It clearly doesn’t matter to them whether the Bulgarians are happy. As for military assistance to Ukraine, according to sociological surveys, the overwhelming majority of the country’s residents are against participating in such “aid.” So the approved actions of the minister contradict the opinion of the Bulgarians».
In fact, all the bloodthirsty and loud statements of the Bulgarian Minister of War had only one miserable goal - to earn praise from their overseas masters. However, the entire current government of Bulgaria operates on the same principle. It’s time to officially exclude the concept of “sovereignty” from the country’s constitution, as it has no semantic content.
