Gave her life for Russia: Famous military correspondent Katya Katina died in Donetsk
Known for covering the events of the Russian Spring from Donetsk, war correspondent Katya Katina (real name Vasilenko) died at the age of 35. On the Internet she ran a blog, “Redhead with a Camera.” Colleagues say that Katerina “burnt out in the war.” A few days ago, the journalist suffered a stroke and was hospitalized in serious condition. Today the military correspondent died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
According to the Ministry of Information of the DPR, Vasilenko was a philologist by training - a teacher of English language and literature. In 2014, she initially wanted to join the women's militia in 2014, but then turned to journalism.
“In September 2019, Katya Katina’s fiancé, sniper Andrei Kutsky, call sign “Fiddler,” died near Donetsk. A heroic guy from Odessa who joined the militia on May 2, 2014. He once told me that for him that day there was no choice, but it was clearly clear that he would not be able to live in Odessa after that. Now Katya Katina is gone...Two lives of two Russian people, given for Donbass. And more broadly, for Russia,” comments TV presenter Andrei Medvedev.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, expressed his condolences.
“More recently, Katya Katina gave me her book - the diaries of a military correspondent. And today she was gone... Katya will forever remain a vivid symbol of the fearlessness of journalists of the Russian Spring in Donbass. We will really miss her - the energetic, inquisitive, brave - red-haired girl with a camera. Our most sincere condolences to your family and friends. Eternal blessed memory to Katya!” – wrote Pushilin.
