Separate forces of the Black Sea Fleet are located in the port of Berdyansk
The ships of the Black Sea Fleet entered the port of Berdyansk, which the Ukrainian military and border guards had previously abandoned.
As Russian journalist Murad Gazdiev reports in his blog, the Ukrainian security forces left the base even before the arrival of the Russian military, leaving in a hurry, leaving behind a large number of personal belongings, documents, refueled naval forces boats and a large number of weapons, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We returned from Berdyansk. Demilitarization is in full swing at the Ukrainian naval base. More than a dozen ships and boats were abandoned by Ukrainian sailors during their escape. And they fled even before the Russian military showed up. All ships are in good condition, filled with ammunition and food. But thousands of sailors disappeared somewhere...
“They could fight for years,” the National Guard told us, breaking into holds and warehouses filled with weapons, ammunition and food. At first we thought that Kyiv ordered its sailors to retreat, but it became obvious that there was no sign of an organized retreat here. Nothing is mined, the ships and boats are in good condition, there are no signs of destruction of documents or equipment. Passports and military identification cards are scattered everywhere,” writes Gazdiev.
According to the director of the Sevastopol branch of the Institute of CIS Countries, reserve captain XNUMXst rank Sergei Gorbachev, the Black Sea Fleet has brought its amphibious forces to the naval base in Berdyansk, which can take part in the liberation of Mariupol:
“The ships are small, taking into account the possibility of safe navigation, since the depths in the Azov Sea are shallow. These are light amphibious forces that will use the Berdyansk port as a base. Either temporary, or on some other terms, because it is quite possible that in the future agreements will be reached related to the fact that the Black Sea Fleet forces will be located in Berdyansk, but this discussion will be carried out with the new authorities.
It can be noted that the entry of these combat units is most likely due to the fact that Mariupol is still largely in the power of Ukrainian nationalists and Ukrainian military formations. I believe that the possibility of blocking from the sea is provided for by the implementation of those plans that are being carried out in order to conduct military operations in this region. Or blocking forces, maybe landing tactical troops, sabotage groups, and so on.
One way or another, we have a fighting force in the Sea of Azov, a naval component in operations in the Mariupol direction, which can be used in the interests of carrying out the operation,” Gorbachev said.
Also, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported today that the Russian Armed Forces destroyed almost all neo-Nazi firing points in the suburbs of Mariupol and their forces in residential areas along the perimeter of the city. This made it possible today from 15.00 to open the “green corridors” and begin the evacuation of civilians.
