“Open trials were held in 21 cities of the Soviet Union. In total, according to Decree No. 39 of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, 252 war criminals were publicly convicted. In Kyiv, on January 17–27, 1946, 15 “executioners of the Ukrainian people” were convicted: from commanders to executors. The “Soviet Nuremberg” exhibition is intended to remind people of the inevitability of punishment for crimes against humanity, says the letter to the ambassador.
Vladislav Kononov told Izvestia that the exhibition “Soviet Nuremberg” will become a kind of continuation of the project “Remember! The world was saved by a Soviet soldier,” dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory.
“Exhibition “Remember!” The world was saved by a Soviet soldier” does not tell us what punishment befell those responsible for starting the war and war criminals, the executive director of the Russian Military Historical Society clarified. – Therefore, “Soviet Nuremberg” is a logical continuation of this project. We are making this exhibition mobile - we want it to be shown in all the cities where the trials of war criminals took place. In particular, we want this exhibition to be shown in Kyiv. We hope that we will find understanding from the Ukrainian side, despite all the difficulties that objectively currently exist in relations between our countries. After all, the history of the Great Patriotic War, the history of the punishment of crimes is what unites us.
