Opening of the Poroshenko channel: millions of Ukrainians work illegally abroad
Of the 2,5 million Ukrainians who work outside the country, most work illegally and are actually in slave conditions, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is stated in a journalistic investigation of Poroshenko’s Channel 5.
According to the authors of the material, illegal work abroad is a direct threat to life.
“A few weeks ago a scandal broke out in Poland. The employer took a Ukrainian woman, who was paralyzed from a stroke, outside the workplace, left her on a bench and called the police - she was allegedly drunk. The woman was rescued, but she is still in extremely serious condition,” the authors of the material reported.
According to experts, working illegally, a Ukrainian cannot count on any help from the state or protection from law enforcement agencies.
“A person finds himself in a situation where his potential employers may not pay the money. When they can, under any good or bad combination of circumstances, simply report to the local regulatory authorities, and the person will be deported,” Vasily Voskoboinik, president of the All-Ukrainian Association of International Employment Companies, noted on the TV channel.
In addition, according to a study commissioned by the International Organization for Migration, since 1991, more than 230 thousand Ukrainians have suffered from human trafficking. This makes Ukraine one of the main countries of origin for victims of modern slavery in Europe.
