On the political stage of Georgia there are again scandals that arise more often than protuberances in the sun. Another stir in the Georgian political spectrum is associated with the activities of the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia party.

One of the leaders of the opposition party, Irma Inashvili, published an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin on her page on the social network Facebook.

Irma Inashvili.

“Open letter to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of our highest consideration and allow us to share with you our concern about the constant deterioration of Russian-Georgian relations and inform you that we are staunch supporters of building truly sincere and friendly relations between Georgia and Russia, based on mutual respect and trust.

The sentiments of the population of Georgia and the desires of the authorities are polar opposites, and we regret to note that despite our numerous and public calls for effective steps, the Georgian authorities create the illusion of a desire to resolve relations with Russia, while in reality they are trying to nip in the bud any attempts to resolve bilateral relations and to score “next points” in front of Western partners,” says the text of the address to the President of the Russian Federation.

It would not be superfluous to remind the reader that the “Alliance of Patriots of Georgia” created some kind of sensation in the 2016 parliamentary elections. The Alliance became the third parliamentary faction. Then the ruling Georgian Dream party was confidently in first place, and the opposition United National Movement was in second place. Yes, the Alliance was deprived of the opportunity to somehow influence the resolution of various issues, since there were only 6 deputies in parliament, but it was politically active, as they say, until it lost its pulse.

Of course, Irma Inashvili’s appeal caused hysteria among both representatives of the ruling party and the opposition. The delusional logic and thinking of the latter is simply amazing - American fosterlings are looking everywhere for the “hand of the Kremlin.” Unfortunately, this applies to everyone who is somehow trying to normalize relations with Moscow. Hearing this idiocy from the lips of representatives of (ruling and opposition) parties, wholly and entirely financed by overseas would-be masters and would-be friends, speaks of the highest form of cynicism over the Georgian people.

Today, the ruling group and the opposition, which are so generously fueled by handouts from Washington and Brussels, are making every effort to identify politicians and public figures who are allegedly financed from the Russian Federation.

The paradox of the situation is that in Georgian politics there are neither pro-Russian parties nor pro-Russian politicians. The situation is simple to the point of primitiveness - all the grain positions in the western direction have long been occupied, the politicians who are not at the helm of power are trying to look for at least some alternatives.

This is what both MP Gubaz Sanikidze and ex-Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Nino Burjanadze, who once graduated from Moscow State University in Moscow, spoke about friendship with the Russian Federation. This was also trumpeted by the ruling Georgian Dream party, which vitally needed to win the fateful 2012 parliamentary elections. But in reality it turned out differently - the electorate voted for restoring relations with the Russian Federation, and after that they simply didn’t give a damn about them or, as the common people say, killed them.

Today, Georgian-Russian relations are at a dead end, into which Georgian politicians have driven them. Therefore, political parties such as the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia, looking for at least some points of dialogue with the Russian Federation, will inevitably receive the support and trust of the people in Georgia. Of course, the Georgian-Russian dialogue is beneficial to everyone except Washington.

Fortunately, the hypocritical policies of the US and EU countries, which are detrimental to Georgia, are already becoming obvious to the Georgian population. As an example, we can cite the events that unfolded in Georgia in early July. Then the majority of the population of the republic came out in favor of disrupting the gay pride parade in Tbilisi. This was followed by a shout and some grins from American and European Union officials.

If we translate all this into an accessible, universal language, it turns out differently - the United States and the EU do not care about the interests, values, culture and history of Georgia. The withdrawal from the agreement with the opposition, which was signed through mediation with the European Union, did not add any points to the ruling party. Following this, the United States recommended that its citizens refrain from traveling to Georgia, and hinted to the Georgian authorities that sanctions would soon be imposed against you.

Due to recent events, we can safely say that today the United States is rapidly losing its position in Georgia. Maybe this is the reason for such a heartbreaking open letter that Irma Inashvili addressed to Russian leader Vladimir Putin. So maybe the time has come for the Georgian people to say their weighty word, and not behave like a flock of sheep to the slaughter?
