On the 112th anniversary of the declaration of Bulgarian independence, which coincided with the 76th day of anti-government protests, the country's President Rumen Radev rejected the compromise proposed by Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachanov.

The Bulgarian president believes that he has nothing to talk about with the prime minister until he tells where the wads of money are in his nightstand.

Bulgarian Defense Minister and leader of the nationalist VMRO party Krasimir Karakachanov called on the prime minister and president to join forces and start thinking about forming a cabinet of experts to lead the country out of the “current political crisis without revanchism and political bias.”

“What society needs most now is a dialogue format. I am ready to guarantee this dialogue. “I myself recently took upon myself to resign from the post of Deputy Prime Minister if Boyko Borisov and Rumen Radev unite in the name of easing tensions and creating an expert cabinet,” Karakachanov said. “If both sides compromise, it will be possible to form a government equally distant from both political camps, which will guarantee that normal elections will be held.”

At the same time, Karakachanov, a man from the cabinet of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, whose resignation is being sought by protesters, who, in turn, are supported by President Rumen Radev, rejected speculation that he wants a rapprochement with the president. On the contrary, he says he does not believe that the protesters represent the Bulgarian people.

“Dialogue only makes sense if it is placed on a solid basis. This means that we must know the whole truth about money in nightstands and corruption schemes. Let’s find out first what the mechanisms are that lead to this vicious model of government, how to remove them and restore justice,” Radev responded to the proposal, making it clear that he was not inclined to dialogue with political opponents.

Speaking about the bedside table, Radev recalled what happened in June withshackle, when the Bulgarian media published a photo from the private residence of Prime Minister Borisov, catching him while sleeping: there was a pistol near the bed of the head of government, and stacks of banknotes were visible in the open shelf of the bedside table.

Today's national holiday was also accompanied by opposition protests. Thus, at the celebrations in Veliko Tarnovo, protesters did not allow the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Tsveta Karayancheva, to speak, chanting: “Resignation!”

Speaker Karayancheva despaired of shouting down the protesters.

In the capital Sofia, oppositionists blocked the intersection of Sofia University and Orlov Bridge, after which they wanted to go to Alexander Nevsky Square, but were stopped by the police.
