“Was the Great Patriotic War cancelled? We strongly disagree with this!” Survey of veterans (VIDEO)
Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, who were present at the ceremonial meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, did not support the removal of the term “Great Patriotic War” from official use by the Ukrainian parliament.

Journalists asked them the corresponding question after the end of the meeting. It is worth noting that not everyone immediately understood what was being said, and some did not even suspect that the law “On perpetuating the memory of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945” was recognized by the Verkhovna Rada as no longer in force, and this decision awaits the president’s signature.
“What, the Great Patriotic War was cancelled? - some asked again. “No, we categorically disagree with this.”
“Don’t confuse God’s gift with scrambled eggs,” others said. – Let it remain as it was. No amount of decrees or decisions can eradicate this.”
“If the Rada really did this, then such a feat cannot be undone. Veterans will not understand this,” said retired colonel and front-line soldier Dmitry Stadnyuk.
“This is wrong,” retired colonel Ilya Ryaboshtan agrees with his comrades. – There was a great state, and it defended itself from the German attack and its satellites. The Great Patriotic War was and will remain for us veterans. This is a great holiday of our Ukrainian people and all, as they say now, post-Soviet peoples.”
“He cannot cancel this if I went from Kursk to the Baltic states, and then, returning to Ukraine, served for another forty years here in Kyiv,” retired Colonel Pavel Koptev is indignant. –I built the Ukrainian army, built defense and management points here. How can he cancel this?!”
Lyashko, who was passing by the journalists during the interview, lay down and, without being embarrassed by the veterans, shouted at the camera “Glory to Ukraine!” Death to the Russian occupiers!”
